Screenshots of Website
I have used intertextual references throughout my products in order to engage and gratify the audience for example to popular music artists and films.
For example, a wide variety of music artists both up and coming and popular and of various genres to entertain different audiences in the 16-25 age group. As they are the first two editions, using popular artists will engage a new audience who will not be familiar with the magazine.
Examples from the covers: Chapel Roan, Brat Summer (Charli xcx), Clairo, Little Sims, Kaytranada.
There are also intertextual references in the contents pages for example: Troye Sivan, new albums such as Short n' Sweet, Wicked, and The Eras Tour
The contents page also references the website and encourages readers to go to the website for sneak peaks, a free poster, and competitions. There are also various interactive easter eggs on the website for the audience to engage with and look for; these offer discounts, facts, and artists profiles.
Intertextuality on the website examples: Fleetwood Mac, The 1975, Fontaines D.C

Statement of Intent
I intend to create a new independent music magazine that appeals to a 16–25-year-old, middle market, media literate audience who have an interest in music. I will do this by reflecting the values and ideologies of an independent magazine through diverse representations and audience tailored content. I will represent both men and women on my covers and create alternative representations of gender through the use of an unposed, candid, and non-sexualised image of a female cover star. They will also be in the same age group as the target demographic and therefore more relatable to this audience. I will also use an array of coverlines referencing artists of different genders, ethnicities, and sexualities to reflect the ideology of the magazine as an independent magazine that has more creative freedom and a stronger ethos. These diverse representations will also target a 16–25-year-old audience who will want to identify with a magazine that promotes a diverse range of artists. From my research, I found that women are more likely to read music magazines and therefore this counter-typical representation of gender and a range of female artists will appeal to them. A range of music genres will be represented, particularly in issue 1, to appeal to a wider audience and offer something for everyone. A convention of independent magazines is more creative freedom so I will reflect this through the use of bold colours and fonts. I will use a range of coverlines to suggest a wealth of content inside as well as having rich and layered intertextual references that will appeal to this audience demographic and their cultural competency for example, ‘The Rise and Rise of a Midwest Princess’ being an intertextual pun. There is also direct address to further engage and entice the audience. The masthead, ‘The Drop’ reflects the focus of the magazine on new music and new artists.
I am to create a website that reflects the brand identity and values established in my covers as well as being visually appealing. There must be a high level of synergy between the two products and one way in which I will do this is by using the same fonts, colours and logos as the print. It must also offer something further to the print edition to encourage the audience to visit the website. To do this I will offer exclusives such as more features, photos, merchandise, playlists, and quizzes. I will make a ‘meet the team’ page to create a personal connection between the ‘producers’ and the audience, a convention of independent magazines. My website will encourage audience interaction such as sending in concert photos and voting for playlists.
I will ensure that my website and magazine create a keen sense of brand identity and synergy by using the same colour scheme, fonts, and logo throughout both and remaining to the bright and eclectic house style. To create this digital convergence, I will make sure both products mutually promote each other and encourage the audience to engage with the other product by having each product offer something exclusive for example, the cover will promote playlists and competitions on the website as well as a barcode to quickly access the website. Similarly, on the website, the two covers will be promoted, offering exclusive features and a poster to encourage people to order. There will also be competitions on the website for people to send in their photos and playlists and social media links on both products to access Instagram, further encouraging and active audience. I will also put interactive ‘easter eggs’ throughout the website that offer sneak peaks at album covers, merch discounts and facts to encourage the audience to search and interact with them.
